Springwood Mall is planning extentions which would include a new dining precinct, new shops, office space, and an expansion to Woolworths.
The two main entry areas to the ageing shopping centre would be given a new look, each flanking the new dining prencinct.
Building contractors have valued the project to cost in the vicinity of $4.5 million.
In an application to council, the centre’s architects proposed 215 square metres of additional retail space, and a 375 square metre addition to the current Woolworths floorspace.
Plans included a vibrant new look with new colours, bike racks, gardens, and a public seating area.
There would also be 400 square metres of office space, built as an additional storey to the expanded retail outlets, and sitting above a Woolworths drive-through pickup.
New floor space would total 1692 square metres.
The outdoor carpark would have extra shaded areas, and the underground carpark would be extended.
The proposed expansion to Springwood Mall still needs to gain council approval. Plans were lodged Thursday August 27.
It comes in addition to work being done at Westpoint Shopping Centre at Logan, the propsed Beenleigh Mall redevelopment, work at Grand Plaza Browns Plains and Hyperdome at Shailer Park. Work is also being done and is in varying stages of completion at shopping precincts at Park Ridge, Logan Central, Waterford West and Loganholme.
