More than 1500 games of bowling were played in the first two days of the 2024 Queensland junior and youth cups at Logan City Ten Pin.
The competitions were then cut to the top qualifiers who battled it out for ultimate victory in the Junior Cup (under 18s) and Youth Cup (under 21s).
Local talent rose quickly in these competitions but fell short of securing first prize.
In the two-game final of the male division of the Youth Cup, Logan’s Mason Marles lost to Rochedale’s Connor Renton by a slim five-pin margin.
Meanwhile, local bowler Tamika Pettigrew suffered a decisive defeated to Brisbane’s Charlene Burnet in the female division.
The under 18s bowlers who couldn’t clinch victory in the qualifying rounds were given a second chance to compete in the restricted division of the cup.
Among the restricted competitors was Slacks Creek’s Deakin Buckingham, who won the title in the final round by defeating Ballina’s Bronx Walsh.
Other Logan City bowlers were able to showcase their talents in this division, including Slacks Creek’s Brooke Buckingham, Marsden’s Chloie Alchin, Kingston’s Lexi Colgan and Rochedale’s Harper Mundraby.
The competition’s organisers said they were delighted with the response to this year’s tournament, which proved one of the most popular events on the sport’s national calendar.
“We’ve had really positive feedback from players, officials and parents alike about the professionalism of the event we delivered,” organising committee chair Jodi Bishop said.
“We’re very fortunate to have such a great range of bowling centres here in Queensland who support our volunteer committees in developing the sport for our enthusiastic younger generation – our future heroes.”
