Racing champion raised in Brown Plains

Supercars racing driver, Chaz Mostert, who grew up in Brown Plains, claimed victory at last week’s (1 December) Repco Supercars Championship race in Adelaide.

Mr Mostert, who drives a Ford Mustang GT for the Mobil1 Optus Racing team, started the race in fourth position and finished in second place behind Matthew Payne.

But his cumulative points saw him win the overall championships with a final score of 5306, 62 points ahead of former champion Will Brown.

Mr Mostert said in a statement posted to his website that he couldn’t believe the result but never gave up hope that he would one day be champion.

“Our year was all about getting to the finals, to bring the best package we can to Adelaide,” he said.

“That was a lot of experimentation, a lot of exploring, a lot of ups and downs.

“We had grit, determination, and a little bit of luck, you always need luck in racing.”
