Pushing for better

Throughout the pandemic, mental health is something that many young people have struggled with. And while Queensland now has the upper hand on COVID-19, its impacts will be felt for quite some time.

That’s why the work of headspace Meadowbrook has never been more important.

And when I signed up for The Push-Up Challenge again this year, supporting headspace was an obvious choice.

They help thousands of young people each year to access vital support through their centres in 124 communities across Australia.

That’s on top of their online and phone counselling services, vocational services and presence in schools.

Now, there’s no shortcut to doing 3,318 push-ups in 25 days – you can take it from me – and some days were much harder than others.

But as the donations grew, so did my determination. And with the support of our community, my original fundraising goal of $2,000 was smashed.

Then, we hit $4,000.

And as I got through the final 30 push-ups on the hallowed turf of Suncorp Stadium with Origin great Jharal Yow Yeh, the fundraising goal reached $5,346.

But things only got crazier from there because the Former Origin Greats (FOGs) not-for-profit had a $3,318 surprise for me, matching a dollar for each push-up.

With the support of FOGs, the Push-Up Challenge was completed with $8,744 raised.

The proudest moment will come when I’m able to present headspace Meadowbrook with a cheque in support of their incredible work.

From Louis at Mosaic Pizza, Deputy Mayor Jon Raven, Mark from Arndale Pharmacy, and everyone in between, thanks for joining me along the way.
