Logan’s pool owners are being urged to check their fences as the weather warms up.
Children aged one to five years are at the highest risk of drowning in backyard pools, Logan City Council says, so parents and carers are being encouraged to be pool safety heroes this summer.
Fences need to meet the pool safety standard and all backyard pools – including inflatable pools and spas – must be registered with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission.
It is also important to supervise children around pools.
“Now that we’re in the warmer months, it’s really important for us all to make sure we keep our kids safe around the water,” Mayor Jon Raven said.
“If you have a swimming pool at home, please check that your pool fence is safe and meets the latest safety rules.”
