Opinion by Logan Mayor Jon Raven
Did you hear the big news? Amazon Australia is coming to Logan.
They’re building a new $750 million robotics fulfilment centre at North Maclean. It’ll create more than 2000 jobs during construction and fit out, and around 1000 ongoing jobs for people in our community once it’s up and running.
Plans have just been revealed for the four-level facility, covering about 150,000 square metres. To put that in perspective, that’s roughly the size of 18 rugby league fields and almost twice the size of Suncorp Stadium.
When it’s operating at full capacity, the centre will process more than 125 million packages a year and hold up to 15 million items ready to ship.
With advanced AI and automation, that means faster delivery for customers right across
Queensland.
The City of Logan is exactly the kind of place companies like Amazon want to invest in. We’re the youngest and fastest growing city in Queensland, and a growing number of people here want the chance to work close to home.
One thing I really like about Amazon’s robotic warehouses is how the technology works alongside people.
The robots handle the heavy lifting and repetitive jobs, while people focus on the tasks that need human judgement and skill.
Your councillors and I believe it’s important that high-paying technology jobs are created right here in Logan.
That’s something many of you told me you wanted when I was running for Mayor.
Projects like this bring new opportunities to our city.
They help create the kinds of careers our young people shouldn’t have to leave Logan to find.
More local jobs mean less traffic on our roads and more time with family.
I want our kids and grandkids to be able to build their future right here at home, working in the industries that will shape the jobs of tomorrow.
This is another great step forward for Logan.
Amazon joins other major brands like Toyota, Culture Kings, LSKD and Little Red Dumpling who have already invested in our city’s future.
They know what we know. Logan is the place to be.
The new Amazon fulfilment centre is expected to be completed in 2028.
