11 hospitalised in school bus crash

A Logan City bus full of school students was hit by a truck while stopped on the M1 on Wednesday morning, hospitalising 11 people.

At around 9.35am the bus, carrying students from a Calamvale school, was pulled over on the M1 southbound near Distillery Drive at Beenleigh when it was struck by a truck towing a trailer.

Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor Scott Harris said 60 people, including 55 students aged between 14 and 16, were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

“The injuries were fairly moderate,” Mr Harris said.

“There were some fractures and abrasions.”

There were 11 people transported to hospital – 10 of those were students.

Eight students were taken to Logan Hospital with minor injuries.

Two others, including a student and the bus driver, were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital – one with facial injuries.

A teenager with leg and head injuries was taken to Queensland Childrens Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“There are a lot of traffic delays on the motorway… because of this accident,” Mr Harris said.

“As you would expect with a bus and truck colliding, it took up two – if not three – of the lanes.”

Seven ambulances attended the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash or any dashcam in the area to assist their investigation.

More to come…
