Logan Village gains more attention for growth

There is a plan to turn Logan Village into a leisure and tourism precinct.

The plan which centres around the Logan River, would be a focal point to an older, albeit increasingly popular, suburb of the region to live.

While developers look at less flood-prone areas surrounding the river, Logan City Council wants to develop parkland which is a “shared community place where people can exercise, relax and embrace the natural and heritage significance of the Logan River”.

The council plan would be to reflect and celebrate the area’s First Nations and pioneering history while also generating economic opportunities for the wider community.

Council’s economic development chair and mayoral candidate Jon Raven said the plan embraces council’s vision for the river.

“Delivering the facilities that the community has asked for will ensure this beautiful part of the Logan River is not only popular for locals but also becomes a tourism destination in Southeast Queensland,” Cr Raven said.

Details of the proposed development were outlined in a new Logan Village Riverfront Precinct Plan endorsed by council last week.

Nearby Logan Village Green already has a new adventure playground and upgraded event space, a modern skate bowl, a new cenotaph and the creation of the Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail.

The council plan outlines clear design principles for future development including:
• An accessible river where people can enjoy the natural beauty
• A healthy river and a flood resilient asset
• A tourism destination with activities to attract people to Logan Village
• A home for active pursuits such as walking, cycling and kayaking
• An authentic identity that respects and positively reflects local First Nations and pioneer history
