Logan man celebrates $2.3 million win with renovation plans and a quiet toast

A Logan man said he was still coming to terms with a life-changing windfall after winning more than $2.3 million earlier this week.

The local resident held one of six top-division winning entries in Saturday night’s national lottery draw on March 14, pocketing $2,316,653.04. He was notified of the win on Monday.

When officials called to confirm the result, the man said he was stunned.

“You’re kidding me, aren’t you?!” he said when he heard the news.

He said he had been playing for decades and usually checked his results each week, but this time hadn’t looked over the weekend.

“I’ve won a couple of little prizes here and there but nothing like this. I’m so happy,” he said.

The Logan resident joked the biggest shock might be telling his wife, who often teased him about his weekly ticket.

“My wife always says, ‘Why do you play? You’ll never win,’” he said.

The couple had long talked about renovating their home, and he said the win meant those plans could finally move ahead.

For now, however, celebrations were set to remain low-key.

“My wife was busy that night, so I thought I might have a celebratory drink with just me and the dog,” he said.

“I even planned to get him some treats.”
