Kingston man charged following series of robberies and assaults south Brisbane

A Kingston man, 37, has been charged with assault, robbery and dangerous driving following a series of alleged incidents in South Brisbane on Tuesday (9 December), police said.

At 8.45pm on Merrivale Street, police allege the Kingston man assaulted another man by hitting him over the head with an object police did not specify, before fleeing the scene.

At 9pm, police allege the man attempted to assault two women on Cordelia Street after following them into a building.

About 10 minutes later, the man allegedly stole a Toyota Corolla, which he used to flee, from a car park on Merivale Street after demanding the car’s owner give him the keys.

Police allege the man crashed the Toyota on Centenary Motorway in Fig Tree Pocket, where he then verbally threatened and assaulted the driver of a Suzuki Vitara who left the car.

The Kingston man allegedly drove off in the Suzuki but was intercepted by police early the next morning at 12.50am, Wednesday 10 December, on the Warrego Highway.

Police charged the man with 14 offences. He was refused bail and is expected to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
