A dedicated cast of students from Kimberley College have been working double time since late last year, collaborating to learn songs, perfect dances, develop characters and polish performances in preparation to bring the musical adventures of orphan Annie to life on stage for the school’s production of Annie.
Set in 1930s New York City, ‘Annie’ is a timeless show about a young orphan on her journey to find love, acceptance, and family.
It is a beloved family-friendly musical which highlights the value of community, the strength found in optimism, and the beauty of childlike wonder.
In the lead role of protagonist Annie, Year 9 Kimberley College student, Maddie Edwards is excited for opening night to interact with a live audience and to hear the applause.
Maddie said “Annie is such a great show with wonderful musical numbers, costumes, and props.
Everyone, both the cast and crew have worked so hard and had so much fun. We even have a live dog in the role of Sandy!
Being cast in the show has been such an amazing experience, making new friends from across different year levels and watching the show develop and come together over the months of rehearsals with the support of our teachers.”
Year 11 student, Isaiah Morgan-Moore as Oliver Warbucks agrees and said “being in the Kimberley College musical this year, has really been a catalyst for friendships and change.
I did not know I could sing and dance, or even stand on stage and be a character.
It has really given me a broader perspective in relation to various forms of media and how things are put together.
I also feel much more connected with friends, the college and I am sure this is something I will brag to the grandkids about one day.”
Kimberley College teachers and co-producers, Miss Bridget Bunker and Miss Hannah Larkin declared, “Our cast have worked diligently for the past year in rehearsals, exhibiting true professionalism as they invested their time, and best effort into bringing this show to life.
Activities within the Performing Arts space allow students to be creative and explore different ways to express themselves, all while having fun alongside their peers.
We are so excited to see them take the stage this term.”
With classic show tunes like ‘Tomorrow’ and ‘It’s the Hard Knock Life’ the Kimberley College students can’t wait to get on stage.
The family friendly musical will run over three performances from Friday 26 July until Saturday 27 July at SunPAC, Sunnybank.
Tickets are $25 for an adult and $15 for a student/child. Tickets are available for purchase online at https://sunpac.sales.ticketsearch.com/sales/salesevent/135667
