Support team personalises support for Logan tornado victims

Eligible Logan residents directly impacted by the recent storms can access face-to-face emergency support from the federal government’s mobile service centre until Friday this week.

The centre, called the Golden Wattle, is a 20 tonne truck that will be stationed at Tamborine Mountain tomorrow (Wednesday 10 January), at Jimboomba on Thursday (11 January) and at Tamborine on Friday (12 January).

Operated by Services Australia staff, the Golden Wattle will provide face-to-face help with general Medicare and Centrelink business and referrals to other government services.

People affected by the recent storms may now be eligible for the Disaster Recovery Payment and Disaster Recovery Allowance.

The Disaster Recovery Payment is a one-off payment of $1,000 for eligible adults and $400 for eligible children.

It is now available to eligible residents who have been significantly affected by the storms and flooding, including a severely damaged or destroyed home, or a serious injury.

The Disaster Recovery Allowance offers up to 13 weeks of income support for eligible residents who have experienced a loss of income due to major disaster – it is equivalent to the maximum rate of JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance.

To access the Golden Wattle service tomorrow, head to Knoll Road near Vonda Youngman Community Centre between 9am and 4pm.

On Thursday, at the same times, the truck will be on Honora street near Jimboomba Community Recovery Hub.

On Friday the truck will be on Waterford Tamborine near Tamborine Memorial Hall at the same times.

You can check what payments you may be eligible for by visiting: servicesaustralia.gov.au/disasterevents.
