Does your pool meet council regulations?

As the first week of summer approaches Logan City Council is reminding residents to be safe around pools.

A local Jimboomba family, the Burton’s, have revised their pool safety procedures to ensure their kids can cool off throughout the holiday season, mum Kate Burton said.

“It’s really important to us that our fence complies, and we always have someone supervising, especially when there’s younger kids, or not-so-confident swimmers in there,” Ms Burton said.

“We love to have our friends over to swim in the pool.”

All pools and spas, including portable and inflatable pools that are 300mm deep, hold more than 2,000L of water or have a filtration system, must have a fence of 1.2m or higher to comply with current pool and spa standards.

Pool gates must be kept closed, not propped open, and there must be no “climable objects” like chairs or pot plants in or outside of the fence.

The council recommends that all pool owners, parents and carers learn CPR, and display the latest CPR sign on their pool fences.

“We’re a young city, and lots of Logan families love to go for a splash in their own pools, or those owned by family or friends,” Cr Raven said.

“We want everyone to stay safe this summer, which means we all have a responsibility to be pool safe.

“There’s nothing better than spending time in the pool when it’s hot.”
