Some of the city’s best dancers have been invited to compete in one of the world’s biggest competitions – The DanceSummit Championship – held at Disney World in Florida in May.
Delta Dance Studios’ Open Pom (cheer) team – “Dynasty” – earned the invitation to compete at the championships after they were named grand champion at the Majors Cheer and Dance Competition in October last year.
Despite only being founded in 2025, the studio has already received awards in hip hop, lyrical and pom.
Members have received invitations to national and international events.
Studio director Raechel Mead said the invitation was a defining moment for both the studio and the team.
“For our open pom team, Dynasty, to receive a bid to The Summit at Disney World is an extraordinary honour and a testament to the dedication, resilience and teamwork of these dancers,” she said.
“I am incredibly proud of the culture we are building at Delta Dance Studios and the commitment shown by our athletes and coaches.”
The Dance Summit – which will be held at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida from 1-3 May – is one of the most prestigious international dance competitions in the world, bringing together elite teams from all over the globe.
Dance coach Georgia Stokes said many of the athletes at Delta have been competing for more than 10 years and have never been to a competition like this before.
“For them, this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and we are determined to make it happen,” she said.
While the invitation represents a major achievement, the financial cost of international competition, including flights, accommodation, competition fees and uniforms, is significant.
To help with costs, the studio is hosting bingo, trivia and movie nights as well as giveaways, car washes and sausage sizzles.
“This opportunity has the potential to be life-changing for our dancers,” Ms Mead said.
“With the support of our community, we will proudly represent Logan City and
Australia in Florida this year.”
