Children from Jimboomba Education and Childcare last week gained some valuable insights from local police officers.
Officers at Jimboomba Police Station told children about the importance of ‘Stopping, Looking, Listening and Thinking’ when crossing the road.
With the help of other Jimboomba Police officers, children practised using these steps to cross a mock up pedestrian crossing.
“After practising, we are confident that the children know the best way to safely cross the road,” Senior Constable Bernadette Auld said.
She said it was great to talk to our young community members about being safe near the road.
“Road safety isn’t just about cars and driving, it’s also about being cautious and careful as pedestrians as well,” Senior Constable Auld said.
“We know that something as simple as this can really help the kids to understand how to keep safe around pedestrian crossings.”
The children were also invited to look at the police vehicles – always a highlight with young children.
