People with cancer are soon to be offered yoga as a way to help treatment and recovery.
The Yoga Partnership and Logan City Council have joined to include yoga as part of the city’s 2026 Active and Healthy program.
Classes include Chair Yoga, Mindful Movement and Cancer Care Yoga.
Cancer Care Yoga Teacher, Megan Crockart said the yoga classes are designed for people who have cancer, are undergoing treatment or in recovery.
“These classes are designed to really support the nervous system while bringing gentle movement, stretching and meditation,” she said.
“It’s a beautiful class where you can connect with others experiencing similar to what you are, so you don’t feel alone, but there is also no pressure to disclose your journey.”
Ms Crockart said The Yoga Partnership – a Queensland organisation dedicated to bringing yoga to communities who need it the most – and Logan City Council started the program to bring a cheaper and more accessible yoga class to cancer patients.
She said there are many health benefits to yoga.
“Yoga can help you reduce stress, feel more calmer, think clearer, and increase strength and flexibility in the body,” she said.
“This class can help nourish and reset the nervous system and give a moment of peace and calm in your day.”
She said Cancer Care Yoga is not only a physical practice, but with mediation and mindfulness included it can also support you mentally and emotionally as well.
“I have been practicing yoga myself for over 30 years and have been teaching for over 2 years and love bringing yoga to people to help them breathe, move and have some stillness and peace,” she said.
“It’s a gentle way to help give some support to your mind and body.”
“I’m honoured to be the teacher of this amazing group.”
Classes will start from January 19th and are $5 per class. They will be held every Monday from 10am-11am at Logan Artists Association at 27 Coral Street, Loganlea.
