Distribution centres and offices for Bunnings Warehouse and Dats, an Australian wholesaler, will be built on a constroversial industrial estate at North Maclean.
The estate’s developer, Charter Hall, expects construction of the 12ha Bunnings distribution centre to be completed later this year, while the remainder of the Bunnings facility and the Dats facility should be completed within the 2026 financial year.
Flagstone Logistics Estate is the state’s first renewably powered industrial estate, spanning 100ha according Charter Hall.
But for about 20 years, local residents have protested against the estate, claiming its development would disrupt the area’s flora and fauna, which a local conservation group claimed was home to species like kangaroos, wallabies, glossy black cockatoos, yellow-bellied gliders, and koalas.
North Maclean and the Greater Flagstone region are in-demand areas for industrial developers like Charter Hall, who say the area and broader south-east Queensland region is a fast-growing corridor located between major infrastructure hubs (Brisbane and the Gold Coast).
Charter Hall Industrial and Logistics CEO Richard Stacker said demand for industrial and logistics facilities was increasing.
“We’re seeing increasing demand across the country for well-located land with new distribution facilities to drive operational efficiencies for our customers,” Mr Stacker said.
“Progress at Flagstone Logistics Estate is gathering momentum with these pre-commitments secured with two Australian-owned businesses and leaders in their respective fields.”
