A multi-million-dollar upgrade of the Beenleigh Aquatic Centre is finally nearing completion, expected to finish in early February.
The $24.7 million project is funded through the SEQ Liveability Fund under the SEQ City Deal, with Logan City Council investing $15 million, alongside a combined $9.7 million in funding from the Australian Government and Queensland Government.
The first stage of upgrades started back in early 2024 to replace the centre’s existing 60-year-old outdoor pool and the surrounding buildings.
Division 12 Councillor, Karen Murphy said a lot of hard work and planning has gone into the new upgrades.
“Our community has waited patiently for this project, and I’m thrilled we’re delivering a modern, accessible and sustainable facility that residents will be able to use and enjoy for years to come,” she said.
Councillor Murphy said the new centre will be home to the City of Logan’s second Olympic-size swimming pool, for the benefit of professional and recreational swimmers.
“It will also be family-friendly, with a brand-new children’s water play area, shaded seating, BBQs modern changerooms, a parent’s room and a kiosk to help everyone make the most of their day at the pool,” she said.
The centre will also feature enhanced accessibility for individuals with disabilities, including a 50-metre pool ramp entry.
“Accessibility has been a major priority, with a pool ramp designed to improve safety and independence for people living with a disability and the inclusion of multiple accessible amenities,” Councillor Murphy said.
“We’ve also incorporated solar panels and stormwater harvesting to ensure the centre is sustainable into the future.”
Councillor Murphy said planning is underway for a community open day for the centre and a date will be shared soon.
“I can’t wait to welcome families, swimmers and community groups to our revitalised Beenleigh Aquatic Centre,” she said.
