Logan City Council has said there will be no delay in severe weather warnings to residents as it discontinues its Logan Early Warning app, and transitions to SMS and email alerts.
The new weather alerts will provide the same service as the app – warning of events like floods, bushfires and controlled burns – plus alert residents to incoming hailstones larger than 2cm.
Early Warning Network (EWN), the developer of the Logan Early Warning App, advised the council that the app, in its current form, could not be supported and would be removed from online stores, a spokesperson for the council said.
“Residents who downloaded the app will no longer receive notifications from it but will automatically receive SMS alerts from EWN on behalf of Council without any delay in warnings,” a council spokesperson said.
“Anyone who has already registered to receive alerts and warnings via SMS and email will not experience any change.
“The EWN service is a free service for the community, delivered in partnership with council.”
Mayor Jon Raven encouraged Logan residents to prepare for storms over the summer, and said he would keep locals updated on his social media profiles.
“Severe storms like what we’ve seen this week are likely to continue over the coming months,” Cr Raven said.
