A celebration of our rich culture

The City of Logan is one of the most culturally diverse regions in Australia. This year we will welcome approximately 2800 people as Australian Citizens through our citizenship ceremonies.

Logan is a great example of modern Australian with a vibrant multicultural community. Last week I welcomed 250 residents from 58 countries to become our newest Australians.

Presiding over these citizenship ceremonies is always a proud moment – seeing so many people from all different backgrounds coming together to become Australians.

It is hard not to get swept up in the excitement. Once the formalities are finished, I truly appreciate the opportunity to speak with our new citizens. While there are a lot of 30-60 seconds conversations it provides an insight into how significant and important the occasion is for others is it simply a photo to commemorate the evening.

It is also a reminder of how important our Council-run citizenship ceremonies are to our community. Citizenship is an auspicious occasion that symbolises the decision for people, not born in Australia, to choose our great country as a place they call home.

Our newest Australian’s are welcomed by our First Australians. The Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dance Company shine a light on the significance of our city’s indigenous heritage through their welcome to country.

I am always so proud to welcome every single one of our newest residents and thank them for choosing the City of Logan to be your home.

To see so many from varying backgrounds and cultures choosing to make the City of Logan home only adds to our rich multicultural society.
