We’re okay, we’ve seen worse

FOR years, people from Brisbane and Gold Coast have looked down on Logan as the poor cousin, but while we have our struggles as a community, these struggles help forge who we are.
You’ll see Logan businessmen and women go from scrappy risk-takers to cautious fighters and eventually, scarred and battled hardened entrepreneurs.
Pandemic? We’ve seen worse. Floods? We’ve seen worse. And while it’s a bit sad that this is true, it also means that we are survivors and those that survive end up leading.
As a local, you might find it hard to believe that our little city is home to some of the most innovative and influential business ventures in Australia.
It has been said that you cannot be a prophet in your own backyard but today I’d like to share the story of just one local business that is becoming a leader outside Logan and now internally.
Yodel is a small company that create mobile applications to help locals connect with local businesses and deals. Recently they teamed up the Logan Chamber of Commerce to create the Chamber of Commerce Australia mobile application.
This app is fast becoming the ‘Buy Local’ app around the state. It connects you with businesses that are close to you, from food to trades.
If you are near a local restaurant, you will get access to exclusive deals they offer other locals. If you need a tradesman, you will find a local business that is ready to support you and will be around to back up their service.
But it doesn’t end there.
Wanting to fill the local need, they have connected with My City Logan to provide a regular news feed of locally written and sourced articles. Articles about your current location written by reporters in this city.
To support local Logan business go to the App Store or Google Play and download the Chamber of Commerce Australia app.
Stewart Fleming is president of the Logan Chamber of Commerce.
