Satellite hospital land secured

Quality and accessible healthcare will continue to be a core pillar of the state government.

That’s why I’m pleased to say the search for our satellite hospital site in the south has now concluded, with land secured in Eight Mile Plains.

On the site, right next door to RACQ’s head office, we’ll build a new health facility for our region, part of our $265 million, Australian-first Satellite Hospitals Program.

This will ease pressures on QEII, the PA and Logan Hospital through the provision of ancillary and minor healthcare services, which is great news and a great win for our community.

Better still, more locals can now access Logan Hospital thanks to the completion of the new eight level carpark.

This almost $62 million project means better care for our growing city, allowing the facility to cater for more patients, staff and visitors.

The carpark offers 1506 undercover parking spaces and is part of a half-a-billion-dollar Logan Hospital expansion that will see 206 additional beds and treatment spaces introduced in the coming years.

With its beautiful banksia tree façade it’s impossible to miss the carpark, which has been a real economic engine for our community, supporting 150 jobs during construction.

All this has been happening as we pull through the other side of the pandemic.

Queenslanders have once again done a stellar job overcoming the latest Covid wave, and with our strong vaccination rates there’s hope we’ve seen the worst of this virus.

The only way to ensure this is the case though is to keep getting vaccinated, and that means getting your booster shot.

Although we’re sitting at almost 91% double vaxxed, we’re only around the 65% mark for boosters, so please get that extra shot of protection if you haven’t already.

And in big news for so many local businesses, in particular our cafes, restaurants pubs and clubs, mask rules are relaxing from 6pm this Friday March 4.

After this time you’ll no longer need a mask in most setting, including hospitality venues, workplaces, shops and schools.

Masks will still be required on public transport, in hospitals, disability care, aged care, airports, planes and prisons.

Thank you for following the health advice, for your patience, and for protecting each other these past two years.
