Bishop Ken Howell will this week bless the soil on which the new San Damiano College is being built.
The College opens next year with about 75 Year 7 students, and is becoming known as an affordable private education option for families.
Students who have so far enrolled in the high school are coming from 24 different primary schools around the region.
More than 30 people are expected to attend the blessing on Wednesday.
A school representative said classroom and office furniture had been bought for the new school, and uniforms are now hanging in the San Damiano office, situated in the shopping village near IGA.
“We are in the process of acquiring numerous whitegoods – ovens, dishwashers, stoves. We will be looking for about 10 microwave ovens and 10 stoves,” he said.
“We are also acquiring sporting equipment and are fitting out the canteen and numerous freezers, fridges and display cabinets. We are also looking at the benches and equipment needed for the industrial design area.”
The building site is changing by the week, and all terracotta tiles have been placed on the rooves. This was a feature of the new design, aimed to replicate the roof-tops of buildings at Assisi, the town of St Francis in central Italy.
Doors and windows have been placed in Block A.
School principal Peter Stewart has been positive about the progress of the construction.
He says the school will be ready and operational before the first day of school next year.
