Great to see how grants are working

It sure has been a busy start to February, out and about chatting with locals at my mobile offices in Beenleigh, Park Ridge and Eagleby and at a range of other community events.

While I am out and about it’s great to see the benefits that community and sporting organisations bring to the lives of our local community. Belonging to groups and taking part in something bigger than ourselves gives us a sense of shared purpose that benefits us all.

Recently, I had the opportunity to pop into the Centre for Women and Co. Beenleigh with the Assistant Minister to the Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction, the Hon Tim Wilson MP to hear how the Morrison Government’s Powering Communities Grant will help the Centre reduce their power bills through the installation of solar panels. The Centre plan to transfer these savings back into their vital work.

Earlier this month Division 12 Councillor Karen Murphy and I announced a $2.8 million club house upgrade at the Logan Lighting Football Club. During the last 7 years the club has grown significantly, with a thousand players this season. This upgrade is supported by a $600,000 Community Development Grant from the Australian Government and $2.2 million from the Logan City Council.

I also visited the Logan Village Cricket Club to check out their new training nets! The Government funded a $12,500 repair and upgrade of the Cricket clubs training facilities through the Stronger Communities program Round 6. It was great to see how enhancements to the netting has made a major impact on overall safety and accessibility of the club.

It is wonderful to see the benefits of our community grant programs at work in the local community.
