We’ve got extraordinary people

The City of Logan is full of extraordinary people going above and beyond and Australia Day is an opportunity to celebrate those people.

Each year Council’s Australia Day Awards aim to recognise the selfless work of those people who serve our community in so many ways.

While we were unable to present this year’s awards in person it doesn’t make them any less significant.

Often, these people toil away with little recognition while they make our city an even better place to live.

This year’s Citizen of the Year is no different.

Marsden’s Ranandy Stanley was recognised for her significant community outreach efforts.

Her dedication is unwavering, whether providing emergency and food relief to community members in crisis and visiting prisons through her role with Hope Centre, advocating for her Samoan community on Logan Samoan Advisory Inc and Voice for Samoan People Inc, supporting her local school as a Samoan elder and P&C member, or working as a healthcare interpreter and community radio announcer.

In 2019, Ranandy launched Hope Centre’s ‘Community Connect Lunch’, an event that regularly attracts more than 100 people, many of whom find new pathways to other community groups, services and relationships to enhance their lives.

Crestmead’s Robyn Wilson is another individual who has had an overwhelming impact on the community and was recognised with the Spirit of Logan Award.

Robyn’s continuous efforts to shelter those in need at her home, as well as regularly delivering food in the local area makes her a deserving recipient of the award.

She was also recognised for organising several successful fundraisers for local charities over many years.

I want to congratulate both our Australia Day Award winners, it is a wonderful achievement, and on behalf of the entire community thank you for all your selfless dedication to the community.

Your tireless commitment makes you truly deserving recipients.
