Granted, most of the people who are not vaccinating for Covid-19 won’t be reading this newspaper. Read into that what you will.
Authorities are at their wits’ end, trying desperately to get through some very simple messages – that the vaccine keeps people out of hospitals, that a vaccine helps societies function, that a vaccine keeps the economy moving, and that a vaccine allows people to live life, eat at restaurants, and travel.
It’s worth having a look at how some of the authorities have been trying to tackle the issue.
The police took a light-hearted approach, issuing a media release which said: “Jokes about germs are hard, we don’t want to spread them.”
Anyone know the difference of Alpha and Delta variant? Who knows. It’s all Greek to me.
“This weekend be like Maxine and come get your vaccine. Help us out of this Covid pandemic by rolling up your sleeve,” the police release said.
“We do apologise for the terrible Covid jokes. Some would say they are tasteless.”
They then listed the weekend’s vaccination clinics, including Logan Entertainment Centre and Mount Warren Indoor Sports.
Member for Woodridge and Treasurer Cameron Dick is in the thick of it, and in today’s paper says you’ve got 24 times more chance of landing in hospital if you remain unvaccinated.
They’re the ones likely to pass the virus to those around them who’ve listened to the tripe from anti-vaxxers, which makes two people with 24 times more chance of getting sick than those who bothered to do the right thing.
And so we end up with even more problems.
Algester MP and Communities Minister Leeanne Enoch emphasised the importance of using the check-in app.
“There are four ways we can all protect ourselves and our loved ones: use the app every time you enter a venue, get vaccinated, social distance, and wear a mask where needed under the current health directions,” she said.
None of it is rocket science.
