What Parklands Christian College is telling parents

Amid investigations into a staff member who tested positive for coronavirus, Parklands Christian College is telling parents and caregivers other staff are in isolation.

The staff member tested positive earlier this week. The school was shutdown on Wednesday.

In a statement, principal Gary Cully said the College was working with Queensland Health to assess the situation.

“At this stage we can confirm that the infected staff member has been placed in isolation,” Mr Cully said.

“We can confirm that a number of other staff members have also been placed in isolation as a precautionary measure due to their direct contact with the infected person.”

Mr Cully said parents and staff were alerted immediately, and the school is closed for professional cleaning. Testing is being made available to all staff and students who are symptomatic or concerned.

“We believe that the person in question has had limited contact with students and the wider College community,” he said.

“Furthermore, thanks to the speedy assistance of the Metro South Public Health Unit, we have been able to identify those few staff who may have been in direct contact with this person and in turn, they have been isolated as a precautionary measure.

“Our children and staff are like family, and we are doing everything possible to keep them safe now and into the future … Thank you for providing families privacy to deal with this situation.”
