Glad to be easing pain

Logan Physio have been running Good Living with Arthritis: Denmark (GLA:D) for the past two years and they have been getting great results with their clients. The program is a 13-part program of education and exercises designed specifically for the treatment and management of hip and knee arthritis.

The program entails a 1-2 hour education session on what arthritis is, the causes and the available treatment options. Additionally, participants then engage in two exercise sessions a week for six weeks. In Australia it is run as a research study at LaTrobe University. It describes three key lines of treatment:

  • 1st Line: education, exercises and weight loss
  • 2nd Line: Physio, aids, braces, orthotics etc.
  • 3rd Line: Surgery

The research found that more patients are receiving the 2nd and 3rd lines of treatment than are receiving the first line of treatment.

The results of the GLA:D program are as follows:

  • 36% reduction in pain
  • 25% improvement in quality of life
  • 32% improvement in sit to stand
  • Reduction in surgery intent from 25% to 13% at 3 months post GLA:D program participation.

All the staff at Logan Physio are trained in the GLA:D program and find it a great resource for the treatment of arthritic problems of the knee and hip.

Logan Physio runs a lot of active rehabilitation programs like GLA:D which are helpful for other areas like the shoulder, ankle, hip and back and can be devised especially for your individual needs with one of our experienced.
