A woman arrested at Woodridge has been charged over an alleged scheme police say involved taking more than 1000 demerit points for other drivers in exchange for money.
Queensland Police allege the 27-year-old advertised on social media, offering to have traffic fines and associated demerit points transferred into her name for payment.
Detectives from the Financial and Cyber Crime Group allege 1266 traffic infringement notices were transferred to the woman between 2022 and June this year, resulting in about 1150 demerit points and approximately $620,000 in fines being recorded against her.
Police arrested the woman at Woodridge on 17 September and charged her with one count of fraud.
She appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court that day, was remanded in custody and is due to return to court on 28 September.
Detective Superintendent Craig McGrath said drivers who allegedly used the service may otherwise have lost their licences.
“Many of those allegedly using these services should have had their licences suspended but were instead able to continue driving on our roads,” he said.
Investigations are continuing.
