We all know Logan locals are no strangers to the spotlight.
Over the years, plenty of home-grown heroes have made their mark on the national stage through sport, music and business.
This time, it’s a local artist’s turn.
This Sunday, September 20, Jimboomba’s Stacey Bennett will feature on ABC’s Portrait Artist of the Year.
If you are not familiar with the show, it’s a bit like Australian Idol for artists.
Talented Aussies put themselves in front of a judging panel, and a national audience, hoping their skills will carry them through to the next round.
Each contestant has just four hours to complete a portrait of a well-known Australian, but they don’t know who their subject will be until that person walks into the room.
It’s the kind of challenge that demands creativity, skill and the ability to perform under pressure.
Luckily, Stacey is exactly the sort of person who can handle it.
Many people across Logan will already know Stacey’s work.
Jimboomba locals, in particular, may recognise her as the artist behind the mural of much-loved local celebrity Steve the Goat.
After years of making her mark in the public art space,
Stacey has earned this amazing opportunity to showcase her skills.
What I love most about Stacey’s story is that it reminds us talent comes in many forms.
We hear often about local athletes, musicians and performers making it big.
But we are also a city of incredible artists and innovators who are quietly doing amazing work right under our noses.
Logan has always been good at backing our own.
