Two people have died in a light aircraft crash at Stockleigh.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene near Musch Road at Chambers Flat about 11.10am this morning, about 12 minutes after the plane took off from Archerfield airport.
Queensland Police have confirmed the aircraft is a 1979 Beech A36 Bonanza.
“Tragically, when we attended (we) located two deceased persons within that aircraft,” Logan District Officer chief superintendent Mel Adams said.
“This was quite a confronting scene for our first responders and it’s only very early in these investigations and we’re still working our way through the intricacies of that investigation with our colleagues at the ATSB.
“What I would ask is for anybody who heard the aircraft, saw the aircraft in the air before it crashed in the Stockleigh area, (or) over the Chambers flat area.
“For anybody that may have witnessed the aircraft hit the ground, it was close to a roadway. Perhaps there is vehicle dash cam or something of that nature. Please, as a matter of priority, contact us.”
Supt Adams said a grass fire was sparked by the crash that concerned some members of the community. It was quickly under control.
“It was a very confronting scene as you can imagine,” she said.
“It came down in the vicinity of residents. But no person (resident) was hurt and there was no damage to other property is my understanding.
“There’s a crime scene in place so people are excluded from the crime scene.
“I have no information as to the cause of the aircraft crash. At this stage, all I can tell you is the aircraft departed Archerfield Airport very shortly before 11am.”
The aircraft took off from Archerfield Airport at 10.58am, reaching an altitude of about 300m before beginning a slow descent, with the last recorded data at 11.05am, information from digital flight tracking and aviation data company Flight Aware shows.
