It’s not just our future sporting stars who should have gold in their sights ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Right now, Logan’s businesses have a golden opportunity of their own.
The Brisbane 2032 organising committee is offering hundreds of opportunities to supply and support the games, as part of a procurement package totalling $2.5 billion.
Around 30% of those opportunities are earmarked for small businesses, and I would love to see Logan businesses throwing their hands up for a piece of that pie.
Already, 70 packages are available, with suppliers being sought for things like catering, traffic control, volunteer uniforms, scaffolding, specialised freight, first-aid services, audio-visual support and more.
It’s overwhelming when you stop to think just how much goes in to delivering the world’s biggest sports carnival over one month of Olympic and Paralympic competition.
I think Logan has a huge part to play in making this one happen.
Last week, representatives from the Queensland Government and the Brisbane 2032 organising committee met with members of our small business community, right here in Logan.
The message was simple: with less than six years to go, now is the time to fire the starting gun.
Whether your business works in construction, transport, technology, security, events or professional services, they want to hear from you.
Most importantly, you don’t have to land a major contract to get involved.
Many businesses will be able to tender for just part of a package, partner with larger suppliers or become part of the broader supply chain.
Simply put, businesses of all sizes can benefit.
This is our opportunity to cash in on the biggest sporting event in the world.
It’s great to have our very own Olympic venue on the way, but there’s more than one way we can bring home the gold.

It would be beneficial if we could get a funding grant to make Logan more aesthetic, we will be on the world stage. It would be a wonderful legacy, courtesy of The Olympic committee. More native trees ( less watering ) bird attracting, make our median strips feel loved. Councillor Paul Jackson Division 5 is doing this already.
