Cancer means different things to different people.
Some have experienced it, others like the team at Fizzio For Life see it every day.
That’s why they’ve thrown their hand up to tackle Dry July, with a promise that funds raised will go directly into providing free and low-cost services to help cancer patients undergoing rehabilitation at their own Allied Health Centre.
“If you or any of your family members have been diagnosed with cancer, you will know that what follows is a whirlwind of appointments, many of them in the city with added expenses and parking adding to the stress of your diagnosis,” Fizzio for Life manager Jo Gilbert says.
“As part of the PINC and STEEL certified program, their team is able to provide physiotherapy and exercise services for people at any stage of their cancer journey.
Cancer rehabilitation physiotherapists are trained to assess each patient for physical impairments and the effects of their treatment.
They work with each patient to create a rehabilitation program to suit their particular stage in recovery. The sessions can include a combination of services including manual physiotherapy, graduated resistance training, fatigue management and exercise prescription.
