Man charged after allegedly stolen car tracked from Shailer Park

A man has been charged after a car was allegedly stolen from Shailer Park and later tracked through Logan and Brisbane’s south.

Police allege a Mazda CX-5 was stolen from an address on Kangan Court, Shailer Park, about 5.45am on Friday, 15 May.

The vehicle was allegedly seen driving around the Logan area about 2pm that day before being tracked into the South Brisbane District.

Police said officers successfully deployed a tyre deflation device at Drewvale, but the vehicle continued for a short distance before colliding with a Ford Ranger on Illaweena Street.

The Mazda’s sole occupant allegedly fled on foot and was not located at the scene.

Police later found a man at Kingston about 10.40pm and took him into custody.

He has been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of fraud.

He was due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday, 18 May.

Police said investigations into other matters were ongoing.
