MyCity Media emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp had closed its community newspaper in Logan earlier that year when it took local newspapers away from 270 communities Australia-wide.

Simon believed in local news. He spent hundreds of hours searching for 300 distribution points around the city, forming business relationships with like-minded advertisers, discovering potential news stories, building a website, designing pages and learning – as he puts the business side of things – “how to count”.
The team of one has grown, as has our city. And as has the need for a vehicle where your stories can be told, where unity of 240 cultures abounds, where the City of Logan is celebrated as it expands.
The first edition of MyCity Logan rolled off the press on Tuesday, 6 October 2020. From the outset, MyCity Logan prided itself on telling the story of our city. We believed if we told the story right and had Logan’s back through thick and thin, we could become the city’s primary news source.
Through floods, more than 90,000 people came to our website for live rolling coverage. We’ve challenged authority, asked tough questions and fostered debate. We’ve been through elections of all tiers, we’ve celebrated tremendous success and reported on deep tragedy.
Most of all, we’ve been reflective of our community, honouring the good and being brave enough to deplore the bad. Hundreds of people have told us their stories. Some are sad, some are funny, poignant, pragmatic, outraged or progressive. All are important. Our team is privileged to tell the story of our city.
