Changes to Beenleigh Waste and Recycling Facility

Logan residents no longer be able to drop off general waste at the Beenleigh Waste and Recycling Facility from July 1, 2026, under changes announced by Logan City Council.

From that date, the site will only accept domestic green waste, recyclables such as metals, cardboard, batteries and e-waste, as well as good-quality second-hand household items for resale through the council’s Logan Recycling Market.

General waste will need to be taken to other council tips, including Browns Plains and Carbrook.

Mayor Jon Raven said council data showed that most residents were already using the site to drop off green waste or recyclables, rather than general waste.

“Of those that do use it for general waste disposal, many only visit once or twice a year,” Cr Raven said.

“We understand this change will affect those visitors, which is why we’ve provided ample notice so people have time to plan ahead.”

The decision aimed to ease long-standing congestion and safety concerns at the busy Beenleigh site.

“Beenleigh is one of our busiest sites, but it simply wasn’t built for the amount of traffic it gets today,” he said.

The mayor said the small footprint of the facility limited expansion and led to queuing and operational pressures.

The council plans to reconfigure the site to handle larger volumes of green waste and recyclable materials instead.

The changes come as the State Government’s waste levy continues to rise in an effort to reduce landfill, with the cost passed on to ratepayers.

Cr Raven said the council’s waste utility charge was influenced by a range of rising costs, including the state government’s waste levy.

“Last year’s $25.50 quarterly increase also reflects the growing cost of providing residential tip vouchers, free green waste disposal, kerbside clean‑ups, weekly bin collection, recyclables processing and future upgrades to the city’s critical waste infrastructure,” Cr Raven said.

Weekly general waste bin collections, fortnightly recycling collections and annual bulky waste kerbside pick-ups will continue unchanged.

Ratepayers will still receive four waste disposal vouchers each year.

Anyone arriving at Beenleigh with general waste after July 1 will be redirected to another facility.
