A SLACKS Creek cafe is pitching in to help feed homeless people, preparing fresh meals and delivering them to families living in tents and caravans.
TNT Banh Mi manager Tram Nguyen said the she and her family just wanted to help.
“When we pass by our area, I see a lot of homeless people some who are elderly and others with young kids,” Ms Nguyen said.
“So we just wanted to do something for them.”
Last week Ms Nguyen and her husband prepared 50 banh mi, 30 rice, noodle, and salad bowls and 20 snack packs to give to locals experiencing homelessness.
Their friend and well known food blogger, Shoggy the Foodie, documented the process and posted it to his 68,000 Places in Brisbane account followers, generating a massive response.
“It surprised me,” Ms Nguyen said. “A lot of people have seen it, and the first year we gave food away quiety.
“But this year after the video was posted we got a lot of attention from people coming to the shop that they didn’t expect.”
A few days after the video was uploaded Ms Nguyen said another social media influencer who said his name was Julien Woods, came by TNT Banh Mi to make a video about her and the business.
“Then suddenly he gave me $1,000,” she said. “I was shocked.
“I refused to take the money, because we didn’t expect anything. We just wanted to do this for people struggling in life.”
Ms Nguyen thanked the community for their support over the past week and since the business opened in July 2024.
“The only thing we always try to do is our best.”
