Flagstone’s newest school welcomes students

Flagstone’s St Bonaventure’s College, the newest catholic education school to open, welcomed 160 students on the first day of school this week.

The College’s 54 Prep students began on Tuesday, 27 January and were joined by Year 1, 2, 3 and 7 on Wednesday, 28 January.

Throughout the year, the College said they hoped to grow the school towards its capacity of 1800 students across Prep to Year 12.

Built on a 7.9ha plot, the modern campus includes a completed junior school precinct designed to inspire students, Foundation Principal Anthony Elmore said.

“Featuring expansive sporting fields that encourage teamwork, an adventure playground bursting with colour, and a purpose-built junior school equipped with cutting-edge technology that supports innovative teaching and learning,” Mr Elmore said.

“The College also proudly opens its doors with a world-class library equipped with state-of-the-art technology, a double-sized, fully covered sports court designed for year-round athletic excellence, and a modern middle school that sets new standards in innovative learning.

“The opening of St Bonaventure’s College is a new chapter in education for the Flagstone community.”

Flagstone, a Priority Development Area (PDA), is expected to house more than 120,000 residents in the next 30 to 40 years.

“This College will help meet the growing educational needs of the Flagstone community for years to come,” Mr Elmore said.

“We are proud to be able to offer parents and carers a quality Catholic education offering that is close to home.”

“I would like to wish our students a wonderful year that inspires them to love learning.”

Lyndal Ecclestone, a parent of a St Bonaventure’s College Prep student, said her son Billy was excited for his first day of school.

“If he sees a show or reads a book that says anything about school, he often asks if he will be doing those things when he goes to school,” Ms Ecclestone said.

“The fact that the school is brand new is also exciting for our family.

“Knowing that these Preps will be the first ones to attend from beginning to end makes their first day extra special.”

Interviews to join the school in 2027 are underway, and applications to attend the College in 2028 and 2029 are now open.
