Our day one of many stories

Queensland Day at the weekend was one of many stories.

People were urged to share yarns about what makes them proud to live here.

It has been 162 years since Queensland separated from New South Wales, on 6 June 1859.

“Queensland Day is an important celebration of our culture and heritage, and an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a Queenslander and to live in our wonderful state,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“More than five million people call Queensland home and any one story can change the way people think about and view the world, as we learn from the experiences of others.

“Queensland’s communities have dealt with the challenges of the global pandemic, underpinning our health and economic recovery, so I hope people gather to tell their story and share what makes them proud to be a Queenslander.”

Queensland Day will continue its celebrations tonight (Tuesday) with the 2021 Queensland Greats Awards, recognising the efforts and achievements of Queenslanders who have made a long-term contribution to the history and development of the state.
