Forest Lake’s Scenic Writer’s Shack, a website dedicated to creative writing, is running a humorous short story competition.
Creative writers are invited to write a humorous short story, no longer than 500 words, responding to one of four prompts, which are available to view on the writer’s shack website.
The prompts depict a graveyard with a tennis racquet, a graveyard with a book, a haunted house with a bowl of cherries, and a haunted house with a toothbrush.
The phrase “It was a wrong end of the telescope moment” must also be included in the story.
The competition is free to enter, and up to $200 in prize money is up for grabs.
Third place winner will be awarded $50, the second-place winner will be awarded $100, and the first-place winner will be awarded $200.
All short stories must be submitted in the body of an email sent to scenicwriter33@gmail.com by 6 February.
Scenic Writer’s Shack is run by Forest Lake local Glen Donaldson, who began the website 10 years ago in 2016.
