Some might say he’s bananas, but a businessman is setting up stalls run entirely on an honesty system.
Logan Bananas’ trailers sells affordable farm fresh bananas from a market style produce trailer with an honesty pay system in place and so far, people are doing the right thing.
Originally from Cairns, Logan Bananas’ Owner Tony Trafford has been in the banana business for many years.
“I started with a trailer on the side of the road in Cairns, buying bananas from local farmers,” he said.
“After putting eftpos in the trailer it was an absolute game changer, and I ended up with more trailers and the farmer I was working with outgrew his farm and we decided to move down here to expand our business.”
Logan Bananas have eight trailers in different locations around Logan, including Slacks Creek, Daisy Hill, Beenleigh, Bahrs Scrub, Waterford, Kingston, Logan Central and Berrinba, and Mr Trafford said there will be more on the way.
“We called it Logan Bananas because we wanted it to feel like a community owned business run by the locals with a real farmer market style feeling,” Mr Trafford said.
“I’ve chosen spots for the trailers that are in busy but convenient areas for locals, some with walking tracks and out front of sporting areas like the one at Gould Adams Park.”
“I wanted them to be somewhere you can walk the dog or the kids in the pram and grab a healthy snack or even after a touch football game or on a nightly stroll.”
Mr Trafford says Logan Bananas runs off an honesty system.
“People think I’m crazy,” he said.
“Bringing this type of thing to the city is very bold, but I think it’s going to work.”
“Country towns have produce stalls with honesty boxes everywhere, why should this type of thing just be out in the country?”
Although there have been a few bad bananas, Mr Trafford said most people do the right thing.
“Our trailers will be there permanently and once people get their heads around it, it will be great,” he said.
“I believe most people are good and do the right thing and people really look out for others around here.”
“If you do the wrong thing, it’s simple we won’t be there for people to enjoy anymore.”
Mr Trafford said he had been working on the business idea with Logan City Council since August 2025 and Mayor Jon Raven is one of his biggest supporters.
Tony is “bananas about Logan,” Mayor Jon Raven said.
“These bananas are as fresh as it gets.”
“They’re $2.50 a kilo and come straight from the farm and the funds go straight back to the farm.”
Mr Trafford is looking to expand into selling mangoes and avocados in the future.
