Local social housing, learning centres and parks secured top prizes at this year’s Logan Urban Design Awards, which celebrate exciting and effective architecture and building design.
A social housing project on Cristaldi Avenue in Underwood, which was designed by the Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works, and the architectural firm Archipelago, won the responsive and resilient award.
The judging panel made special reference to Cristaldi Avenue’s “inclusive and sustainable urban design,” which was crucial to maximise the sloped site and preserve the pre-existing garden spaces.
Mabel Park State High’s United Culture Centre and Z block learning centre won the award for people focus and connected, while Billubera Park and Borrol Lookout, both in Yarrabilba, won the embracing nature award.
Eagleby’s Distillery Road Market won the award for distinctive architecture and building design.
Mayor Jon Raven said high-quality urban planning, design and architecture was part of what makes Logan a “great” city and that recognising this work was important.
“This is about celebrating the projects and people who are shaping the future of Logan, helping us build a better and more innovative city,” Cr Raven said.
“Our award nominees and winners are part of what makes Logan so attractive for business, investors and people buying their own home.
“I want our community to dream big and be ambitious for what Logan will become over the next 50 years.”
