‘That’s crazy’: Teen allegedly caught with ‘large’ knife at Logan bus stop

“I carry it around just in case.”

Those were the words of a Meadowbrook teenager who was allegedly caught with a 30cm-long knife while sitting at a bus stop in Shailer Park, according to police footage.

Police say they were conducting a routine wanding operation at around 4pm on 31 October when a 17-year-old boy from Meadowbrook was stopped for a metal detection scan.

Police allegedly found a “large” knife in his bag.

In bodycam footage released by police, an officer can be heard saying “that’s crazy”, after allegedly pulling the knife from the bag.

Police said they would continue to conduct regular wanding operations across Logan as part of ongoing efforts to prevent knife-related crime.

Senior Sergeant Shayne Treasure from the railway squad this sort of proactive wanding was helping keep the community safe.

“The weapon located in this instance was particularly concerning due to its size and potential to cause harm,” Mr Treasure said.

“Wanding operations are an effective deterrent and detection tool, allowing police to remove dangerous items from public transport hubs and ensure passengers feel safe while travelling.

“The message to young people is clear – carrying a knife is not only illegal, but also dangerous and unnecessary.

“If you choose to carry a weapon, you can expect to be caught.”
