Australian artist to take centre stage in Logan

One of Australia’s most respected landscape painters, Joe Furlonger, will take centre stage in the City of Logan this November, showcasing his works and leading an outdoor painting masterclass.

A nine-time Archibald Prize finalist, Mr Furlonger rose to national prominence in the late 1980s when his large-scale painting Bathers 1987 won the Moët and Chandon Fellowship.

Over his 40-year career, the human figure, land and seascapes have remained recurring themes in his practice.

His exhibition, Joe Furlonger: Horizons, is drawn from the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Collection and curated by former QAGOMA curator Michael Hawker.

The exhibition will be on display at Logan Art Gallery from November 14 to January 17, 2026, featuring works spanning painting, ceramics, sculpture and drawing.

As part of the exhibition, Mr Furlonger will host an En Plein Air (open air) painting and drawing masterclass at Berrinba Wetlands from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, November 22. Tickets cost $40 per person and are limited, with bookings available at lccqld.com/JoeFurlongerclass.

Running alongside will be Shirley Yumala Collins’ exhibition Grandmothers, which explores her Aboriginal heritage through paintings, prints, textiles, objects, artefacts and jewellery.

Logan Art Gallery is open 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday, with free entry.
