Logan’s own Lol and Lil cooked to stay another week in the My Kitchen Rules (MKR) kitchen, winning by two points in a nail-biting elimination challenge on Monday (13 October) night’s episode.
Lol and Lil faced Victorian contestants, mother-daughter duo Anne and Maree, in a challenge that required both teams to cook and serve a two-course banquet meal in a time limit of three hours.
The MKR contestants who were safe from elimination this week joined the show’s judges, Manu and Colin, to determine each team’s score.
Lol and Lil served up a ‘classic Sunday roast’ with roast chicken, vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, and gravy, which received praise from both judges for being “perfectly cooked’ and comforting.
Anne and Maree, known on the show as the Gourmet Greeks, cooked a traditional Greek meal with lamb shoulder, lemon potatoes, dolmades, Greek salad, and tzatziki.
For dessert, Lol and Lil attempted a technically challenging profiterole tower, with limited success, as the judges pointed out the profiteroles lacked consistency in their size and the amount of filling in each.
Anne and Maree made a traditional Greek Ekmek Kataifi, a three-layered dessert made from kataifi pastry, custard, and whipped cream.
When the scores from both judges and fellow contestants had been decided for the main and dessert dishes, Lol and Lil triumphed with 21 out of 30, compared to Anne and Maree, who received a score of 19 out of 30.
“We’re so grateful it means so much to us,” Lol said after finding out she and Lil were safe from elimination.
“It means so much to us to stay in the competition when we almost thought we were going home.”
Colin praised the girls for taking on the judges’ feedback throughout the MKR season and working to improve.
“That’s what this competition is about, you get knocked down and you get back up,” he said.
