Mayor Jon Raven says ‘hi’, all the way from Asia

HI Logan. I’m writing to you as I wrap up our Sister City Mission. I have visited Taoyuan in Taiwan and Hirakata in Japan for our 30 year anniversaries with both cities.

We’re marking three decades of economic, education and cultural connections with these communities, and I’m honoured to have the chance to make our ties even stronger.

Last week, I hosted a business and investment forum in Taiwan’s capital of Taipei to explore opportunities that could benefit Logan.

It was a great opportunity to meet with business operators and investors in the areas like recycling, manufacturing, data, sport and tourism.

These are exactly the kinds of industries that could help grow our economy and create more jobs.

Best of all, many are already looking for local partners to do business with. I’ve also been pitching a baseball and softball stadium for Logan while I’m over here. Japan and Taiwan are two of the countries who love these sports and they are eager to see them as part of the 2032 Games.

My jaw dropped on arrival at the Taipei Dome. This amazing, fully air-conditioned indoor stadium seats 40,000 people.

While ours wouldn’t be as big, it was great to see what’s possible and talk to people who know the industry, including banks, investors and the Secretary-General of Taiwan’s Professional Baseball League. They all agree Logan is the perfect fit to host diamond sports at the 2032 Olympics.

I know that Acting Mayor Scott Bannan is doing a great job keeping the momentum going on our Logan Plan consultation.

Thanks to everyone who has contacted us so far with their questions and concerns.
