Man charged after allegedly hurting roadworker in ‘hit and run’.

A man has been charged over an alleged hit-and-run at Cedar Vale earlier this month that left a roadwork with life-threatening injuries.

Police allege that on Thursday 4 September, shortly after midnight, officers were called to Mount Lindesay Highway following reports a white Toyota Corolla had hit a roadworker near Cedar Grove Road.

“The driver then, allegedly sped from the scene,” a police statement read.

“The vehicle was located a short time later burnt out in Holyrood Ct, Munruben.”

The roadworker, a 66-year-old man, suffered “life-threatening injuries” and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

“A 33-year-old Algester man has been charged with six offences including one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, driver fail to remain at incident and render assistance and arson motor vehicle,” police said.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court on 24 November.
