‘Logan bogans’ Lol and Lil stay hopeful as MKR heats up

Two amateur cooks, who have made headlines for being labelled “Logan bogans” on national television, have temporarily escaped elimination from My Kitchen Rules despite a ‘disappointing’ first menu.

Local best friends Lol and Lil were the talk of the town after their competitors on the show made derogatory remarks about their hometown and its residents.

Lol and Lil bit back.

MyCity Logan reported on the squabble when it aired in a promotional video back in July.

The exchange made national headlines two weeks ago once the complete episode aired.

Last week, on 9 September, it was Lol and Lil’s turn to impress fellow contestants and judges with their menu.

Their instant restaurant was called Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice. The menu featured grilled prawn and mango tortilla bites for entree, a chicken and leek pot pie for main, and a lemon meringue pie for dessert.

Despite high hopes, the duo scored just 64 out of 110, landing at the bottom of the leaderboard by just one point.

Celebrity chef and show judge Colin Fassnidge was impressed by the entree, but fellow judge Manu Feildel said the prawns were slightly overcooked and the salsa had lost its texture.

The main course drew mixed reactions, with commentary the pie filling was delicious, but the pastry was burnt and the side salad was overly sweet.

Dessert, however, was the standout. According to Lol, it was a modern twist on a much-loved recipe from her late grandmother.

Fellow contestants commended the Logan duo on their restaurant-quality presentation.

However, Michael, the contestant who first made the ‘Logan bogan’ remark, said the menu was “easy” and “average”.

He even doubled down on his distaste for Logan.

“I would never come to Logan unless it was for a very, very, very good reason,” he said.

“All I know is you have a meat pie and a pack of durries.”

Lil said she was “a bit disappointed” by their restaurant’s score, but Lol remained optimistic.

“We’re still in the competition, so we can’t lose hope,” she said.
