Mayor to pitch Logan baseball stadium on international stage

LOGAN doesn’t just wait for opportunities, we create them. That’s why I’m championing a bold new vision in the lead up to the Olympics: a world-class baseball stadium right here in our community.

The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games haven’t locked in their sports yet, but I’m pitching baseball. Where better than Griffith University at Logan?

This is so much more than a facility for grassroots sport. It could host Australian Baseball League games, international tournaments, school programs, pro-baseball off season training camps, community events and live music.

It could be a place where young athletes can dream big and where Logan families can gather to celebrate the spirit of our city.

We’ve already got four diamonds in Logan for baseball and softball, but this will take us to the next level. I’ve spoken to Baseball Queensland, Baseball Australia, the Brisbane Bandits and Major League Baseball who all love the idea.

I’ve pitched it to the Premier, Deputy Premier and Olympic Committees. They know baseball is a big deal on the world stage.

A key part of this vision is our partnership with Griffith University. Together, we can create a precinct where sport meets knowledge. A place where students can hone their craft of broadcast media, sports medicine, psychology, nutrition and researchers can cut their teeth in innovation and technology.

This partnership will ensure the stadium becomes a living, learning space for all.

This isn’t a project for the Games. It is an ambition to be the home of baseball in Queensland. Baseball is a billion-dollar export market. The technology and research that goes with it is staggering.

This push is attracting international interest in our city. I’m hunting for private investment for this ballpark.

In September I’ll be visiting Taiwan and Japan, two massive baseball nations, for our Sister City anniversaries. I will be making sure everyone knows that if they want to see baseball and softball in 2032, Logan is the best place to invest to make it happen.
