Local bands will join growing Aussie indie icons next month for the first indie music festival at Distillery Road Market.
The festival is the third instalment in the Eagleby venue’s inaugural free festival series, which has already seen blues and reggae festivals with crowds up to 1500.
The indie festival, from 3-9.30pm on 4 October, will kick off with two local indie rock bands, Space & Ages and Mt. Nadir, followed by all-female band Bett Taylor, Sydney-based indie-rock act Big Wheels, and up and comer Bella Amor.
Headlining the vening will be Surf Trash, a surf rock band fresh off back-to-back Australia, US and UK tours.
The first festival in the DRM series was reggae-themed and held in June, showcasing the likes of Queensland bands Fat Picnic, District Dub City, Kingfisha, Bradamon and others.
Next was a blues fest in July that featured Buddy Knox – known as “Australia’s answer to BB King ” – and local musicians Dillion James, JB’s Blues Breakers, and 8 Ball Aitken.
The festival series, which DRM has announced will be held annually, will culminate in January with a country themed event.
“At DRM we want to create experiences that everyone can be part of, and music has a way of bringing people together,” DRM founder Kenton Campbell said.
“These genre-themed festivals are about more than just great lineups, they’re about celebrating culture, connection and community.
“Logan locals and south-east Queensland residents deserve big, brilliant music events.
“We’re proud to be able to offer them at no cost, right here at DRM, half-way between Gold Coast and Brisbane.”
The festival will be free entry for people of all ages.
